Your Baby Crib Mattresses

Baby crib mattresses are one of the most important purchases that you’ll make for your precious baby.

You should go to www.CPSC.gov to check out hazards, good safety and recalls. They can be inexpensive and still be safe and of good quality. Shop around online and in your stores. Make sure it meets all safety standards.

I don’t recommend buying used. You don’t really know if it meets all the safety qualifications. Try to buy the best you can afford.

Here are some tips for safety:

Don’t buy foam. Most are made with a foam that is very toxic. Buy and innerspring one instead. The number of coils is important for the quality.

Make sure it is flame retardant. The U.S. government requires it and there should be a tag on it that says such.

Shop for one that is firm. You don’t want the baby’s face sinking down into it

It should fit reasonably tight down into the crib. There shouldn’t be a gap between the bed and mattress any larger than one finger

If your baby is comfortable you will be too, so make sure you pick a good baby crib mattress.
