Create a Baby Shower Diaper Cake For Less!

A baby shower diaper cake is fun and functional! They are a great gift idea and make great centerpieces for the baby shower.

The parents-to-be will enjoy your creation long after the shower is over.

1. Buy a ready made diaper cake and spend a lot of money!

2. Create your own chic diaper cake and save tons of money! Check out this “recipe” made by us:

• Approximately 28-75 disposable diapers depending on size cake (we like less pattern & more white)
• Bag of rubber bands
• Approximately 4yds. each of wide and narrow ribbon (we used grosgrain ribbon).
• Silk flowers- we used Gerber daisies
• 14” cake round- silver or gold
• Wooden craft dowels
• Hot glue gun & sticks, double-sided tape or glue dots
• Tulle or cellophane wrap- if traveling or giving as gift
• Optional: can add small baby gifts, crystals, gemstones or charms

  Remember… simple is chic and easy on your budget!

First Step:

Top tier: Roll diaper starting at open end and secure with rubber band. Repeat with 7 more diapers. Add the 7 diapers around the first rolled diaper, and place one rubber band around all 8 diapers.

Second Step:

Second tier: Repeat first step and add 12 rolled diapers. You’ll have 20 rolled diapers. Secure all together with rubber band.

Third Step:

Bottom tier (optional): Repeat second step and add 19 more rolled diapers. You’ll have 39 diapers for bottom layer.Secure all three tiers with very large rubber band or narrow ribbon. You may need an extra hand for this tier.

Fourth Step:

We used craft wooden dowels to make our cake more stable. Be careful not to poke a diaper. Your mom-to-be will want to use them later.

Fifth Step:

Let’s get creative! For a cheap chic diaper cake think… modern, chic colors and designs. Add ribbons to cover rubber bands. We used hot glue for securing ribbon, but you can also use glue dots or double-sided tape.

Decorate with bows, flowers, etc.

Add gifts like silver cups, spoons or silver piggy banks if your budget allows. What a great way to give a designer gift without breaking the bank!

Last Step:

Place your baby shower diaper cake on a decorative cake round. Wrap with tulle or cellophane & add bow if using as a gift. If you’re using the cake as a centerpiece, you can place the cake on a cake plate or stand.
